PageRank – What Is It?

PageRank is the name of an algorithm used for analysing links. It aims to represent the relative import of each document within a set of hyperlinked documents, such as the World Wide Web, by assigning a value to each one. Any collection of reciprocally linked, quoted and referenced, objects can be subject to the algorithm. A Brief History Of Google

It took two Stanford students to propose the hypothesis that a search engine could present more relevant results to the user by evaluating the relationships between Websites. The quantity of the keywords being searched for on any given Web page was the basis for this relevancy. There was also another factor, known as Backrub, which was based on how many back links a page had. These two students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, made this search engine available for public use in 1998. Continue reading
